Don't understand but live the Trinity

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity John 3:16-18 God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. The great mystery of our faith, one God in three persons – Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. There are not three gods, there are not three people with three functions, but one God a community of Love. Today's gospel is interesting. You’d think it’d be something mentions the Holy Trinity? Like the command to baptize in the name of the Father, of the Son, of the Holy Spirit. No, instead of talking about the three persons in the Holy Trinity the Gospel talks about love. Why? Very simple, because God is love. Sometimes we preach on the great theology of the Trinity, three persons one God. Of course theology is important, it is important for the great theologians to discuss the trinity. It is important for the Pope to explain what this great mystery means. But we are not great theologians, nor are we part of the hierarchy. So instead of understanding the mystery, I invite you to live it. The trinity profoundly explains who God is. The Trinity explains who God is, but it also explains who we are. Instead of talking about the three persons in the trinity, today's Gospel speaks of God's Love and that our God is a God who is in relationship. The Father gives everything to the Son, the Son receives everything from the Father, and the Holy Spirit is the bond of that love poured out on the world. So if God is love, and God's love is expressed in communion, then we who are created in God's image are created by love as well, love expressing in communion – with God and with one another. But this is something that Mexicans understand very well. Something I learned in my three years living in Mexico, and my almost 40 years working with the Mexican community, Mexicans want to be in community. In the United States, we live in isolation. In the United States the most important thing is the individual, we talk about my rights, my space, my time. You who have lived there know this reality. Unfortunately it is the truth among the Redemptorists of the US as well. On Monday, Pope Leo published an Encyclical on artificial intelligence. How sad! There are people who only have a relationship with their computer, who only have virtual friends. That is why Pope Leo says that there is division in today's world: divisions in families, in the community, in society, between nations, even in our own Church. The feast of the Holy Trinity above all reminds us that division is not of God. God is love, love that creates unity without destroying diversity. In the Trinity God the Father is not God the Son, and God the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not God the Father. They are different, but perfectly one. Unity does not remove differences, love makes the three are in union. This is something we have to learn, as families, as a church, as a city, as a state, as a nation, and as a world. The Trinity also teaches us something essential about love. True love always gives. The father to the son, the son to the father, and the Holy Spirit to us. Each Mass begins with the simplest prayer: In the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. When someone passes in front of the temple, they make the sign of the cross. Athletes when they enter the field or after scoring a goal also make the sign of the cross. It's our identity, it's who we are. At baptism we were immersed in water in the name of the Trinity. To be a Christian is not so much to obey all the laws, to go to Mass every Sunday. No, to be Christian is to participate in the life of God. So we don't have to try to understand the Holy Trinity, I won't explain it either. No, more importantly we are going to live it! • We live the trinity when we forgive instead of holding grudges. • We live the trinity when we make sacrifices for others. • We live the Trinity when we help the poor. • When we are generous, the invisible Trinity becomes visible through our works. ! Yes, it is true, we cannot understand the trinity, but we can live it, we can live the love of God. So every time we cross ourselves we live this mystery. So today we're going to do it by taking our time. Slowly and mindfully: In the name of the Father who created us, the Son who Redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit who makes us Holy. One God, three people. The trinity of love, and we are invited to live this mystery, not to understand but to live it. Where there is Love, there is the trinity: Lover, beloved, and pure love.
